I'm sure this matter has been raised at the club meetings , but has anything or will anything be done about the walkers and horse riders who are using the BIKE tracks?
I believe there use of the tracks at the same time as the cyclists is a serious safety issue and will no doubt end with some one getting injured!

Yes the issue was raised in the latest meeting but it seems the main problem is that the area being open to all the public means you cannot stop walkers/ horse riders using the singletrack as well.

It looks like the best way to tackle it is to put priority signs at the start of each section.

Are there any particular sections that are worse effected than others with this multi-use problem?

Surely if it is a free for all to use, then surely the walkers and the Horse riders could be hit up for some of the maintenance costs instead of just the bike club members.

I can just see some of the Trot members turning up on the work days to help out !!

Just seen the new leaflet for Bedgebury, and some of the cycling rules ar a complete joke!
"keep your speed down"
"give way to walkers"

I thought it was singletrack, maybe they should re advertise it as footpaths and just ban the cyclists!

How can they expect to put on races, or even expect the powers that be to take them seriously, when they don't even know what they want to do with the place!!

They wont be happy untill somebody is seriously hurt. Then they might readdress the issue.

as well as walkers are families that are unprepared for what singletrack is, i've been down numerous times when a family have decided to ride the singletrack and halfway through a section have become walkers anyway (normally with one member of the family crying!)

haven't seen the new leflet tho

It is radiculous and I'm getting fed up with it as well. Perhaps we should organise an accident to make a point.

I'm also tired of families who walk in the way on the cycle route, blocking the whole path and refuse to move for you. I think they should be the ones in the leaflets told to get out of the way! But they're the holy cows who rekon themselves soo important who don't have to move.

I don't think we should have to drive all the way to Bedgers to get wound up like we mtbers have to everywhere else!

There feel a bit better now Smile

"normally with one member of the family crying" aha so true...

these new cycling rules are bollocks... think next visit i'll take the whole thing faster than ever before just for the hell of it.... mayby run down a few little kids while i'm at it....
All they need is clear details (e.g. don't ride this is your short and fat) and decent signs (so people don't get lost down the singletrack)

and a bit off-topic... but if they're having a bitch just about the singletrack... then i really can't see all these new plans for the freeride area ever going ahead....

Yeah it's not really a biking venue if we've all the time got to be careful about families in the way.

On the freeride topic, I know what you're saying. Want to have a goog old rant about this so am going to contact them now. Cool I had hoped to finish the first dirt run, get the shore updated and maybe start building some short dh/dj runs by summer time. Doesn't look very likely now....

We have different work parties for the different areas but it's proving very difficult to arrange anything. We are now awaiting training so we are registered builders or something before we can continue. It's annoying cos progress in early spring was good and now it's just completely halted.

Welcome on board btw OutlanderSE! You are most welcome here Very Happy
