Venue vibes

This was mentioned as a passing thought in another topic and was interested to find out more what experiences people had had at various biking spots with the general riding atmosphere?

IMO Something allot of our local spots seems to suffer from are riders who are more interested in talking about your bike/their bike etc and how great they are rather than riding. PORC is a prime example...... it seems most peoples time is spent in the car park talking a good game. I think mummy and daddy have spent allot of money on someones rig and they like to talk about it not only to their mates, but anyone that will listen to them about it.

I don't care who you are what you ride, We're just there to enjoy ourselves. This is defintely something that came across at Chicky, (which I really didn't expect). It was like the Bull but bigger, good atmosphere, welcoming, helpful etc... loved it. No attitude just loads of grins.

UK Bike Park had a good atmosphere, although a few weapons hidden away.

The R is good, but not as welcoming as the Bull. All good though.

Skate Parks tend to attract fckwits that are more interested in your bike than anything else.

Bedgbury just attracts all sorts. Too much lycra for my liking!

Up at Uni weve got a club of about 100 people and all really chilled. Okay theres bant between the disciplines but everyone is getting on no problems, even with the bmx track owners, and at the jump spots around here. either that or weve avoided the absolute goons!

Uni-type rides are really good from what I've heard. Bedgebury often suffers a bit from the riders who aren't really passionate about mtb and 'do it cos its done' weekend type riders (read Dirt #82 p39). Not all bad but can be.

Chicky was good and esher can be a bit icy at times from what I've experienced  Wink Does vary though!

Chicky is good , when i was up there a few weeks ago , people were very happy to talk and discuss anything mtb . Esher i dont go there much anymore , seems if you dont throw down sick moves you dont get talked to , i have been there on a weekend and almost been intimidated not to ride some of the lines as i was to slow or just not doing it right .
The Bull track is one of the most enjoyable places i have ever ridden , everyone is friendly and it doesnt matter how good or bad you are , you are just accepted because you enjoy riding for ridings sake .

So true - if you turn up with the right attitude and your polite and respectful you can ride anywhere you like.

I agree. I think most of us are self assured enough not to be bothered by snotty locals.  Not being a skilful rider I'd probably never get on the bike if cared that much about what people thought.
