PORCI spent Thursday morning over at PORC. Considering they are bidding to be an Olympic training camp and to hold a competition, the place is in a mess.
I've got a few issues with what I saw:
- How can it be called DH??
- It seems like every gimp with a shovel has been allowed to build a jump or drop or something with no thought to the lines or flow. Everything criss crosses! Why?? (This got my goat most)
- All the rain has created huge ruts/ravines all through the tracks, and I found myself just being taken along for the ride. Which is super sketchy and lead to a couple of moments!!
- The 4X was really sticky and the clay just gave zero grip. It seems like it has also been a tad neglected.
- 8km of single track..... really??
- Whats with the randon NS. Looks like an after thought?
- Didn't make it to the quarry as I'd lost the will to live by then.
Still..........the new club house looks like its going to be huge!
Anyone reckon they will sort out these issues....? It's my understandng that its been this way for sometime now though.

You are dead right pires. Haven't ridden there for over a year for the mentioned reasons. Am not sure what's going on there with the managment atm. Couldn't find the 8km singtrack as you say and the downhill is overly confusing. What impression do others have of this spot?
(not sure about that driveway handling olympic-volume traffic either )

as i said in the PM to you pires:
TBH, i haven't been to porc for a good while now because from what i found last time, i totally agree with what you said. The DH just isn't great and the lines crisscross all over the place so you never know where you're going. It's a night mare in the wet too, because of the clay that seems eternally boggy.
I've found the best time to go is on a race practice day as then there is a course taped out so you know where you're going and is usually quite enjoyable if you don't mind the fact that it's fairly busy.
As for the 4X, it hasn't changed in the last 5 years (literally) and seems extremely rutted. Plus, the whole top section is one straight which means it can get pretty dull.

The 4x is too straight along the top section. Would almost be worth sacrificing some of the quarry to get some cornering in (which isn't a 180) to keep things interesting and last a bit longer. Imaging the funding could be hefty though.
Speaking of the quarry it has recieved an overhaul recently. Not sure if its any good?

They must have the funding! And speaking to a few mates, these aren't new issues....... riders have been saying the same things for near on 10 years.

Odd gaps and stuff were built for the race courses so there were minor changes there, but that has stopped now at the mo.
