Newb looking for more places to ride in the South East

Helllo all, I'm glad to find some other like minded people in the 'Wells area. I've been riding for about a year and a half. I started riding XC, but after a few trips to Friston last spring realised I was more 'all mountain'. My favourite place to ride is currently the Leith Hill North Downs area.  Me and my mate Weenie are currently interested in finding some more local places to ride. We've found an ok route from Crowborough down to Harrisons Rocks. It isn't a big thriller. We're more than happy to have a go at small doubles. Hoping to progress a bit more this summer.

I've really enjoyed the singletrack at Bedgebury in the past but last weekend large parts seemed more like a swamp. I'm not adverse to a bit of mud but I draw the line at the when it gets near the knee deep point.

I'd really like to get some pointers from more experienced riders and am also looking for someone with similar interests who can go biking on Saturdays and Sundays, hopefully some weeknights now it's lighter. Let me know.

Hello buddy welcome to the forums!

Good to have a Leith rider on board as could do with a few pointers as hoping to go there sometime soon!  Cool

As for local trails... Man-made stuff never really lasts round here (we have a few secret small spots) but probably the best place to look locally is Rotherfield which happens to be fairly near the Crowborough-Harrisons bit. The ashdown forest can be good but they're not all that friendly to bikers  Wink

I'm not really a Leith Hill rider unfortunely. I've been there 3 times. The last time it was snowing and pretty hostile so we focused on trying to find some good spots to go back to.  My best advice is to find your way to coldharbour http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap...newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf There's a pub and a car park at the place I've linked to.  At the Car Park there's a 'F Off' steep hill. Keep looking to your left up the hill for some cool stuff on the right but on the other side of the summit there's plenty more. The first time I went, me and my mate just asked another biker where was good and got shown around the local area for the morning.  We're hoping to go back pretty soon. We got there from TWells in less than an hour last time. All depends on the M25.

I'm all too familiar with the Ashdown Forest situation. I grew up in Crowborough,  on the edge of the forest . I hate it that bikes are banned. There's a small part where it isn't illegal to ride but it's not much.

Laughing  I know that chesnut.

Cheers for the pointers. Maybe organise a group ride at some point! Have heard a fair bit about it and some quarry with some drops etc nearby?

British Heart Foundation are running some huge enduro over the South Downs this year ( http://jabonline.myfastforum.org/about195.html ) so there must be some good stuff to ride there. Have heard its good but never been there myself.

I think I was at the Quarry last month, I saw some dude dropping what seemed like 15-20 feet. It was at least more that head height but definately looked like it was most likely to be hospital if any mistakes.

I'll let you know next time we're planning a trip.
