New Film Makers and OpportunitiesA topic dedicated to new filmers/editors. [Like Me [Well...Pretty New]]. Im thinking people that want to get a better, more entertaining, more pro film should be taught from old hands? Maybe an idea to have a film day where techniques etc are taught? I am a brand new user joined like 2 minutes ago but i thought it would be an idea. Some of you might know me from bedgebury [Freeride and Jumps Movie] but ive made some more and want to get better at it so heres a thread for a thought...

Welcome Metalibiker Some nice cuts there.
Is great when people suggest ideas like that as it helps keep things interesting! Could be a done thing like you could pick a venue which would be interesting to work with and look at the best ways to capture interesting linking sections of trail/static shots etc. Also one of the best tutors is the great films out there; one of the best to look at is The Collective for imaginative shots.

Yeah seen both ROAM and The Collective and getting Seasons soon hopefully [looks amazing]. Sorry i PMed you btw, didnt see your reply. Yeha sounds cool, i dont know many great venues though, maybe you could help? Only using a crappy home-video camcorder at the mo but hoping to get hold of some better equipment.

Seasons Is the best purchase in ages, amazing stuff. Might even top the Collective...
Good local venues could be Bedgebury, Bull Track- spots with a variety of types of riding on offer.
The best hardware for improvement would be to start with getting a tripod and wide-angle lens. The type of shots you'll be able to get will increase massively.

Check the venues/clubs forum its a sub-forum there. Think its £2.50 a ride but has loads of jumps and shore on offer.

Can you say specifically where that Bidborough Ridge trail begins?

Sorry, bit of topic but I just have to say the Whistler section of Seasons is hands down the best section of a mountain bike movie ever for me.
The concept (everyone getting together at the end of the season to celebrate), the feeling of access to the riders (interviews and the lift line shots), the massive trains (training A Line is on my list of 10 things to do before I depart my mortal coil) and the music (brilliant tune, builds, falls away and then builds to a wicked finish) its all just fantastic.
STOKED TO RIDE - you bet

At the top of Quarry Hill [Linking Tonbridge and Southborough] There is a steep smaller road that is almost parellel to the main road, but then vears off to the left [going up it]. Go up there about 400m and there is a path on the right hand side of the road, get on that and there is a footpath that goes straight down the hill. Its that. Watch out for the gate at the bottom though lol. Check out the shot in the video where the riders are just going into the footpath, thats what you need to look for.
Have fun XD

Perhaps I should not say this but if you search for it on a certain video sharing website it's there, split into each section.
Personally, I would wait until you get the DVD as it's much better quality and therefore a far superior experience.
I went to the London premier and that was absolutely fantastic - few pints, ROAM and Seasons on the big screen and one too many pints afterwards.
Sweet

Don't get too hyped up cos otherwise it won't seem that seem good when you do see it!
I would buy it on DVD as opposed to watching it online as rob said, cos it'll ruin the experience.

So what are people reckoning to this "Film Day" idea?
Good, Bad, You should die? Tell me what you think
XD

It could be a good idea, would work if included with a ride sesh, say at the Bull Track when there are people sessioning stuff. Don't know really.

Would it be a day where people exchange ideas etc or a day where some teach and others are taught? If the latter, it would cost... that sort of info can't be given away for free!!

Watched Seasons yesterday!
It is totally amazing, love it, some of the slow-mo shots are just stupidly good. Love it!!!
Anyway...
Maybe to include both teaching, practical use, learning etc. it would be an idea to do like a "mini film" where we set out on the day to get everyone involved in producing a good quality 4-5 minute film, old hands giving advice and showing the new-comers how its done, then letting them have a shot at it.
???

Sounds a great idea (i'm no old hands though!!!).
We need a show of hands for who else is up for something this.

Im up for it... (also metalbiker guess who this is )
Just need to know though what day you are going to do this. Gives a chance to test out my new bike too

Nice what bike did you get?
Not sure if this day will work atm as there isn't really sufficient support. Also being that a lot of the flow of a film comes from editing stages its probably easiest to learn from how existing films are filmed/edited. Like mentioned earlier an evening session is probably a good bet as those who aren't bothered about filming can get on with the riding and those who want to film can point and shoot. Think giving a day over to it is too much a commitment also the fact that most people would charge to give away self taught techniques etc. Am all up for building community but there isn't enough backing at the mo.

Surely best bet is to get along to a Thursday or weekend session at the Bull Track.
BTW Ben - are you around this Thursday and if not, shall I ask Alvar about the cable-cam. Be good to get it hooked up while the weather is good and I'm due up there Saturday 2 August for most of the day if you want to do it then.

Prob can't do this thurs. Have been thinking about that cable a lot. Might be able to make 2nd Aug if not maybe sometime later in the month. Thurs eves happen to be one of the few eve's in the week that I happen to be busy...
Will post something up about it soon though!
