Local Trails

Dug out an old vid from 2005 with a bit of helmet cam at Rotherfield.

Quite funny but excuse the edit, all done on Windows Movie Maker!

Great footage....Although the road gap and pins is a reality check buddy!
robbo

Coming from someone whose probably had worse than me on the rugby field!

It didn't really hurt anyway - or was that all the morph  Shocked

Quality video but the pins made me wince!

I'll be bubble wrapped to the max on thursday now!

Any one coming out to play thursday? It seems I've lost my riding buddie for this week as the shore and jumps of the Bull Track have taken their toll on Lems Spesh XC.
lemmy

Enjoyed that, but scared. Especially the pinned wrist part.

Chaps,

I hit it in the wet and I was tired at the end of a long session. I got it very wrong, coming up short on the road gap (too casual) and going straight over the back of the berm. I shatered my wrist, dislocated my shoulder, broke 4 ribs and twisted my pelvis - ie I was completed fucked. So much for the body armour I had on!

But - the jump itself was well built and hit by all of us on numerous occassions that day without any problem. It was also used in a race and there were no serious accidents there either. In other words, the jump was fine, although I did not think so at the time, becuase I was in pain, gutted, broke and generally seeing things in a very negative light.

It's important to get these things in perspective. Anyone could have a big off at any time but statistically you are unlikely. If you ride within your limits you will have fun and stay safe. If you hit 30 foot road gaps in the wet, then your taking the piss and if you get twatted you only have yourself to blame.

I learned some invaluable lessons from that and it was one of the best things that has ever happended to me.

Anyway, apologies as I forgot it was even on there and I didn't mean to freak everyone out.
Pires

Don't worry mate, not freaked out.......I've seen a hell of alot worse on the Rugby field. I don't feel like I've had a session now unless there is a bruise or two!!

It just made me laugh seeing your pinned up lower arm peering out from underneath the camera pointing towards the jump!!

See you friday.
Ben03

Nice! Good colours and detail in the headcam as well. What headcam is it?

Was that not what stopped you riding in Morzine or was that another time?

Was joining in a search in Les Gets last summer for someones tooth in the dust which wasn't too nice Laughing

Ben, the headcam was a cable version, couple of years old now. It attached to the camera, which you had to carry in a rucksack. Much better than the stand-alone versions though.

As for Morzine, yep it was that injury that stopped me riding out there, but looking back it woke me up in so many ways that its more positive than negative now, if you know what I mean.

In other words, at 36, I think I've still got a few Alps trips left in me yet!
Wiener Schnitzel

I've spent enough time searching in the dirt for Lems teeth in the past. Thank f@ck he's bought a full face lid for playing at the Bull Track.

Def. want to go and have a look over at Rotherfield now... looks really good.
JAW

I find it funny how Rob posts a video with lots of nice riding footage and everyone goes and comments on the wrist!! It did look nasty though...

Good riding BTW.
lemmy

Suppose it is.. Can't wait till I get a bike together so I can learn some more of that.
lemmy

Rob, have you got any more footage of local stuff? Somehow looking at clips of familiar places makes the more intimidating stuff seem more accessible.
robbo

Only about 20 hours of stuff from Rotherfield, PORC, Esher and so on.

It's all from a few years back now though, so a lot of the trails have changed a fair bit.

If you want to progress then the best thing is to film yourself, as you can then have a look and see what you look like in comparison to other riders. It really helps to see this and adapt your riding to what works.

I have got tape-fulls if you want it though.
