Is it worth it?

I just read the 'Busted: Rob Warner' article in Dirt about the various (and extensive) injuries he has sustained over the years. I know a lot of them were due to MXing, but I couldn't help but think "Is it worth it?".

I mean sure, there's a lot of thrills, and I know my biking experiences were definitely worth every ounce of pain - though I have got away with relatively little injury so far. But do the thrills really match the level of pain and injury he has gone through? Perhaps he's just unlucky. What do ya think?

Rob does seem to have been pretty unlucky with the injuries he has sustained, especially the MX ones.

I think it all comes down to pushing boundaries and pushing yourself. when you are doing that and riding on the limit there are always going to be accidents.

MBUK ran a similar article on Chris Smith. He has had some huge offs pushing the limits of what can be done on a bike!

They do say you aren't trying if you don't stack often. That said I don't think you have to to get on wih the sport. If you don't race (which ups injuries loads) it's often down to trying to progress too quickly. So not sure really!

True! If I progessed evertime I fell off, I'd be Worldchamp by now!!

I have mainly stacked from silly things this year (like trying to put my foot down on a skinny when losing balance  Laughing ). Haven't really been trying that hard to push the boat out this year I'll shamefully admit!

Does anyone remember Bender's crash at the 05 (i think) Rampage? He walked out of that in one piece even having broken so many bones before! Does it make you stronger?

Do you have arthritis or is that just another thing that can go wrong?

Personally I don't like bruised nuts

Lem,

I've been told by just about every medical professional I've seen (and that's a lot) that I am guaranteed an extended trip to the pain cave in later life.

I've unfortunately encountered some nasty breaks and some bones just don't want to work properly anymore. It's definately worse when the barometric pressure changes too. Hasn't stopped me riding though. The adrenaline, sense of accomplishment and commaradary are all big incentives to keep going.

Here's a pic of my finest accomplishment, just to put you off ever riding again mate...

Remember Lem, there is nothing to fear but fear itself...

Shocked   Nice Rob, always brings a wince to my face!

My fingers and hands are already arthritic. A combination of stretched and torn ligaments, multiple breaks and dislocations make for a beautiful arthritic blend of aches and pains this time of year!

Spot the old b*stards!!

Nasty...
