Foam pits

Although a lot of hype surround them, are foam pits necessary a good way to learn tricks?
OutlanderSE

i rekon they are as you have that extra confidence to try something that you know you probablly wont land but you can still work on them, if they are accompanied by rubber ramps then they are great as you can then transfer from the foam to the rubber ramp which is as close to the real thing as you can get but with smushyness for landing

You could always use a swimming pool.....

I think they're good but it's not fair as not everyone has one locally!!

Yeah I'd almost vote a swimming pool/lake. Used to be all up for them but heard Martyn Ashton broke his back in a foam pit...

Seen some pics of nasty injuries from Foam Pits. Your still chucking yourself into a pit full of foam at strange angles with a bike on top of you.  Still its gotta be safer than getting it wrong on compacted dirt.
