Discipline dissing.

Was on another forum and got wound up by some downhill rider saying that shore quickly gets boring. Shore will get boring if only wide straight runs are built. Does it sound like they'd ridden real shore before or boadwalks? Downhill runs will get boring quickly if they aren't made propperly as will XC tracks. Why dig at other disciplines with weak evidence? [/rant]
Heffers

haha.

i get exacly what you meen...i'm in a position where i don't really care what diciplin i'm riding as long as i'm on my bike and having fun. but then i se people insulting others for what they ride/how they ride and it's not really on.

they are on a bike and having fun, you know, fun (oh his is what i wana say to them by the way)...perhaps you should get on your bike and do it.
D

snap with oli; doesnt matter what discipline as long as your having fun at that time!!Very Happy theyre just too narrow minded

but if its having a laugh for example jim (XC) and Outie (FR) start disssing each otehr its quite amusing for us (me n oli) and everyone jokes in the end:) lol just gets a bit more competitiveness goign too sometimes ahha:)
jedi

as long as its bikes!

ben what forum?

i'll down your way sunday Very Happy
Ben03

Yeah it's good to have a laugh (surely it's ok to diss lycra?) but sometimes there's serious 'racer hate freeriders' etc. Not sure whether it's cos it's a new discipline?

Tony am not free sunday Sad
Have some new drops you need to hit locally as well!
jedi

nevermind ben. jaw busy too i take it?
will meet alvar in the afternoon too
Ben03

Yeah think that will be the case. The forum was shd by th way Wink

If the aurgument's to do with freeriders having easy sponsership as opposed to racers, there is some truth in that but how long has dirt jumping worked like that?
jedi

post the thread!
Ben03

Was this post that bought it back:

Quote:
i know all wood rots but you'd be hard pushed to see some oak or chestnut rot in the lifespan of some NS. i.e it owuld be cut short by something else, like everyoone getting bored and going to ride some DH

Was the ns bull track topic which you involved in Jedi. There have been far more bitchy ones a while back as well.
jedi

personally, i can ride any dh course in the world.can a ny of the ney sayer's ride any ns in the uk let alone the world?

pigeon holing makes the world they rid in small
Dango

Its nice to be able to mix it up, apart from road bikes which I cant understand Evil or Very Mad

Nope can't understand that either.

Riding different disciplines helps you to imrove your overall riding style. You won't be so fearful of a double in a dh course if you do some dj and your ability to handle weight distribution on techy lines will imrove riding shore. XC works on endurance etc...
D

id only understand road biking if you were in Southern France with lovely countryside... Rolling Eyes
jedi

every dh racer i know who's anygood rides road bikes
Ben03

Tis true a lot of people do it for fitness unless you live somewhere VERY scenic. But you never feel like you've accomplished much by riding a long stretch of road (maybe that's opinion Wink)
jedi

4hrs on a road bike hooning along lanes is wicked.
the satisfying ache in your legs lasts al day
D

surely just doing loads of riding whatever disipline will build your fitness... specially going up hill on a full sus!
abruce

road riding is great.... and its not cool to diss lycra!
Razz
jedi

unless you're racing  lycra belongs in unerwear
Heffers

lycra isn't really cool...there are very few people that can pull it off.

i can see why top level riders need it when winning/losing can be the difference of 0.2 seconds or less but not others.

p.s. haven't heard from you in a while bruce.
D

bruce!!!

hows uni?

and well bruce is an example of people that can pull it off... but others like jim that dont race...im not so sure lol
Ben03

Lycra's a no no. It annoys me as the general public presume that's what everyone should wear when they go on their mtb. Like Heffers says you can almost understand it's use for racing ( I cringe watching the world champs DH mind) but should be avoided at all costs otherwise.
jedi

why oh why do people all want to look like roadie pros when out in the woods on a sunday?????

seems people get dressed in the dark or dont have any mirrors
Ben03

Think it's a bit scary. Are there any other benifits from it apart from less wind resistance?
jedi

benifits?
everyone can see what religion your are!
Ben03

Ah I'm beginning to understand Wink

The world champs got a good public recognition this year but they were all hitting the hill in full lycra. Where did the rock 'n' roll look go in downhill?
jedi

its wrong isnt it.  why dont they agree on baggies no skin tight shit?
makes it appeal more to the masses i reckon
D

the best skin tight clothing is 'Skins' because its got other benefits as certain areas are contoured n shizz to improve blood circulation but Skins at least helps muscle build up
Heffers

Part of the reason for wearing Lycra style stuff at the worlds is cos it was an event where they are representing contries rather that companies so it is the governing body for the sport in that country that decide what the riders wear.
jedi

and the excuse for the rest of the time?
Heffers

erm....they want to set records? (only reason i can think of off the top of my head)

i duno, but there always riders that don't (Gracia, Peat etc.)
D

maybe whatever they want to wear makes them feel like they can ride even more confidently and therefore faster?...
Dango

Subconsciously I am a victim of fashion and If I'm on a DH its TL lid, Dainese , 5-ten etc and other stuff its now baggies and 661 knee's etc..  or slacks/jeans and a pisspot (yawn) but sometime I ride with some local lads and I have as much fun with them and they re a mixed bunch with mixed skilz and they were wear anything from jeans, lycra to woolly jumpers  Shocked , but I still have just as much of a blast riding with them as I do with all my regular riding buddies who don the pimp gear

I don't know what I saying, but I said it anyway  Very Happy
JAW

^ Yeah i get what your saying. Similar to Gracia's 'ditch the icon' campaign. Funny though how he went and made himself a personal logo and plastered it all over his lids and bikes, after all that!

Lycra builds muscle? I thought i just showed how little you had! (in my case).

Funny how this has turned from discipline dissing to fashion dissing!  Laughing
D

haha im not sure if skins is lycra or just some other tight material but yeah it helps the build up well at least that brand does!
OutlanderSE

im sorry but thats bull
clothes cannot help build muscle, i will continue to fight you on this one!
jedi

and i'll join you in this crusade!
OutlanderSE

woo!
its looking bleak for you splads!
jedi

clothes that build muscle>>>>>>  oh look a pig ................in the sky
DCLXVI

Yeah... clothing that builds muscle is a load of bull...

unless it's weighted, but that kinda ruins the point of having weight saving, less air resistance clothing...

D is outnumbered here me thinks...
D

just went on their site and i got confused but its not muscle build up it focus's the direction of the muscle for optimum performance .... so i qoute off their site

"Independent scientific and medical research has been the vehicle of credibility and acceptance for Skins™ into the elite sporting segment. Independent testing for both performance and recovery benefits from wearing Skins™ has recently been recommended and endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association as well as being accepted to be published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine. No other sports brand within this category can make these claims!

Skins™ body-moulded, gradient compression tights and tops with BioAcceleration Technology™ combine sports and medical science, patented design and the best in smart fabric technology. Delivering improved blood flow and circulation, Skins™ are scientifically proven to enhance your power, endurance and recovery.

Skins™ also work to maintain an optimal skin temperature without effecting core temperature, due to Skins™ wicking fabric that promotes evaporate cooling. Skins™ has been shown using thermal imaging to create a difference of up to three degrees and prevents moisture accumulating under the sports fabric."

or just go to www.skins.net

main bits are in R & D, how skins work and then from there...

That sounds more likely!!
jedi

same as nickers that dont make a birds arse look big.
take em off and they still got a fat arse!
OutlanderSE

haha well said jedi
D

now whos disipline dissing:P

but it must work otherwise i dont see why so many people wear it professionally.
they dont even sponsor people to wear them; the users actually have to buy em rather than it being given to em free

anyway i think weve gone off point a bit haha
Ben03

Suppose the 'north shore gets boring' argument ends when you have trails like this to sesh for example  Wink

It really depends on how much you put into a discipline to how much you get out.
D

hmm ... simply ... wow

guess that covers it!
OutlanderSE

im lost for words!
i just want that so much!
jedi

riley built in the same gulley at lemon creek as the nwd7 trail he built. it'll get washed out when the rains come again.shame  :O(
abruce

glad to see my mention of the word "lycra" sparked such a debate....
Apart from in the top top time-trials (where they even wear lycra over their shoes to stop any wind resistance) the benefits of lycra over mos normal clothes is obsolete..... however i'd imagine in world-class DH where the difference in between winning or loosing is in milliseconds, the difference between padded-up racers in big troy-lee baggies or lycra is enough to make a difference.
And every second counts (even if it means looking like a tit)....

However, for everyone else, the benefit of lycra is that its flexible (when your riding road or xc and your sddle is up as high as it goes for optimum power then you don't want baggies getting in the way or sagging on branches).... for example, when i'm descending and i put my weight right over the back wheel, i can't get myself back upright unless i'm wearing lycra cause the crotch on anything baggier gets snagged on the saddle...

Also lycra is incredibly breathable, and more importantly it is right nex to your skin, so when you sweat; instead of getting wet, your sweat just seeps through the lycra and comes off the other side...

aaaanyway, didn't mean to go into such an essay, but just wanted to fight my cause...
i look fit in lycra!
Cool
DCLXVI

no bruce, you don't.

you're scary in lycra. it makes me wish i didn't have eyes.

Shocked
D

BRUCE!!! see ive been fighting the lycra corner:p

glad to hear from u again:)

Then i wonder why they only wear it at the champs not at the cup rounds (i'm glad they don't)?

That was a class trail too (nwd7 one). I suppose it keeps progression fresh (on the bright side).
jedi

true.but its a shame.
JAW

Definately, the thought of nature effortlessly ripping that shore down is enough to make one weep. Still at least it reminds us who's boss...

I suppose it also says: "make the best of your trails now cos they may not be there tommorrow".  A good proverb/saying for us all. (especially me!!)
jedi

coming to herts soon?
JAW

It's on the cards! Probably won't be until jan/feb time though (understandably)
