D.I.Y - BAD TIMES

I think I must be jinxed! Every-time I do any kind of bike maintenance it never ever goes to plan.

Annoyed with the constant chain slap and fear of mullering my cranset on the Remedy. I spent 3 hours this eve, putting a midlength SLX rear deraileur on, taking off the triple ring, then the BB off in order to put a BB mounted chain tensioner and a mrp bb mounted bash guard.

All going great, everythings in place..... and then the whole thing is now delayed because I need a ceratin sized 2mm washer I need to keep the chain rings togther!! Why is it always the little things that cause the most agro!!!

....Could have been out riding!! Bad Times!! Twisted Evil

Yes, I feel your pain. It's one *ucking thing after another isn't it. You shell out a ton of cash on one bit then something else goes wrong. You can see why it's easier to hoof a ball around a field for sport. I was thinking about reading 'Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance' or something like that although time might better spent investigating a creak in the linkage, wondering why the brake pads are about one degree to the wrong angle or why there's that irritating rattle from the new silver fork spring. I could go on but this post might stop being so interesting. I'm going to sell the b2stard and get something with a different set of problems just so I can have a change. Mind you, I'm getting comfortable with the existing faults, maybe I should stick with those. Better the devil you know and all that. Oh well... I'm off to my therapy now. I'll probably go for a ride after that where when I'm full pelt down the hill dodging trees and trying not to die, soggy shocks and worn out chainrings will be the last thing on my mind.

Rolling Eyes  didn't want the extra weight of the extra bash guard, and it needed a tensioner!! Slapping about like a wet fish!!

Have you still got the receipt?

You know it makes sense...

I always hand it over to the mechanics as I'm better off spending my time doing things I can do.

I can strip it down but I can't put it back together, so I've learned not to strip it down.

I agree! I sometimes try, but I completely lack the patience & ability, so usually end up parting with hard earned cash.  Sad  Oh well, time is money I guess!

If you learn to do it yourself it's time well spent as you can fix your stuff when you need it (if you have the time) for the price of the parts and you can help your mates out as well. If everyone each new how to fix different bits, we could help each other out and also maybe live in squat as a commune and eat mung beans and grow marajuana in the attic.

Sounds like a plan! Economic living, it would make.
