Have seen pics of a line of shore drops in Whistler each getting progressivley larger than the last. Is this not taking away the skill in natural progression?

i pondered that.isnt seeing things done before you ride them taking that away?
i mean, whatever helps riders progress and find that skills learning is a neverending road.
it's all good dude! |

I hang my head. There is only one thing (a double) that i have ever ridden without seeing someone else do it first. It's cause i'm too much of a cautious rider (not ballsy enough, or at all)
However, i have my thoughts about those progressive drops. It seems a bit cheap, but that's probably cos i'm jealous: if i had one locally i'd not complain! _________________

you and ben have been to herts.is that cheating?
no.it isnt. you can feel yourself overcoming barriers mentally all the time whilst you ride.
what i will say is,everyone has a big off.best to take it slow and have it happen lowdown than blat your way through and have it happen 20ft up |

i normally prefur to see other people ride stuff first too.
and when you say getting larger...is progressing getting to the stage where you feel you are able to hit bigger stuff? _________________ |

yeah.
everyone progresses at different speeds.if you progress faster than you should its cool but everyone and i mean everyone has a big off.the further you go before the off the bigger it'll be.
you and ben progressed at herts but not beyond your skills if that m,akes sense |

Herts has got a variety of different style drops, which is great. I am naturally a slow progressor so like to hit stuff of the same height but with varying styles (slow roller, fast gap etc) before moving on. I think the stuff in the pics i saw looked at bit like you were spoon fed the size up and didn't really need too much calculation, which would lead too rapid progression and a big off i'd imagine....
I'm not saying I'm against them but wonder whether they take away some of the skill in locating something new and possible and judging whats required in order to make it. It takes away the ballsy 'huck' thing if calculation is required
