I'm scraping up around £1500 for a new DH/FR bike. Decided to buy new to get a years warranty and hopefully low maintenance. Looking for something ripe for gradual upgrade

At the moment it's between these two

Scott Voltage FR 30

Specialized Big Hit II

The Scott has adjustable rear travel to make it more allmountainy
Good feature but you don't see many of these about so how realiable?

Big Hit is a proven design and known to reliable but I really like the idea of the travel adjust on the Scott

Will probably make a purchase around end of Feb if not sooner

What are the thoughts on this dilema?

Voltage, Voltage, Voltage!

Simple design, easily adjustable, well built!!.... oh and green!

Seriously though, it comes pretty well spec'd for the money. The only thing on there that is great is the X4 shifter, but they are still not bad!

I was veering towards the Scott..

You're saying the only thing bad about it is the gear shifter?

Its the only thing that is lower spec. I'm sure the X4 does the job.

The fork, cranks etc etc are all good!!

Thanks for the advice,

I've looked at a used bikes on SDH for a few months but nothing that's exactly right so far. I'll still keep looking but I reckon it'll be the Scott that wins in the end.

That www.mtb-direct.co.uk place looks good for parts.

That is a nice rig!

Reckon you have a fair point on the 2nd hand bike!

Looks like the Voltage isn't available till 2010. I'll proabably wait till after Crimbo and see what happens
