Mountain Biking Britain
Blow away the cobwebs on the back of a bike
What better way to explore the breathtaking coastal paths and rich woodland that Britain has to offer than on the back of a bike? The only problem is: how do you know where to go?
Step forward Chris Moran, a visitor to some 233 trail centres and mountain bike venues throughout 2008/2009 in compiling Footprint’s latest release: Mountain Biking Britain.
Mountain Biking Britain aims to be the perfect reference point for riders whether it’s their first time in the saddle to the seasoned pro, and offers a perfect introduction into organising a mountain biking adventure whether you’re looking for a last minute day trip or planning a long weekend away.
All venues are covered in depth, offering full directions whether you’re driving (sat nav postcodes are included), taking the train (nearest stations are broken down), what facilities are on site, and whether the riding is suited to cross country, downhill, dirt jump, freeride and 4X (plus explanations as to what these categories mean!) And as with all Footprint books, there are quality pictures and hint and tips from professional riders to offer motivation and inspiration.
“After Mountain Biking Europe, I realised there was an enormous wealth of riding spots in the UK,” says Author Chris Moran. “There are specialist books for certain areas – the Lake District for example – and the well-know sites such as the 7Stanes in Scotland have fantastic websites which are indispensable in helping to organise a trip. But there was no one-stop-shop for modern riders in deciding where they should head to for a day out or a week’s riding in the UK. So I sat down and asked all the local riding clubs where their favourite spots were, drew up a list, and went and visited them. The result is Mountain Biking Britain. As well as regular riders looking for a new place to ride, I had in mind everyone from adventurous families through to older first timers in mind, so hopefully anyone who’s ever thought about getting on a bike will be able to profit from the book.”
To make your choice even easier, within each destination there’s a table listing all the venues and trail centres and their facilities; from bike hire, to the best after-ride cake. So for the perfect day on two wheels all you’ll need is a couple of energy bars, a bottle of water, and a copy of Mountain Biking Britain,

Just picked up a copy of this yesterday. But it through amazon as a used book. I paid £5 and got a brand new copy!
Its a fantastic book and a must for anyone looking for new riding spots! I see Ben, Jason, JAB and Mudtrail all get a good mention!!
Slightly confused by the mention of the Bull having a cafe facility and Chicksands not having a 4x track though?? _________________

Eh? Sounds odd! I hadn't noticed that myself before. Perhaps you should email Chris Moran - i'm sure he'd be glad to have any errors pointed out. But yeah, it is an excellent book. _________________

Perhaps he's referring to the cake selling car boot sellers on race day! _________________

got the book for my b'day hot off the press in july for my b'day - tis great.
and yes, i wasn't sure either about the detail, especially when you read about porc... fine organic food or something... instead of the reality of pot noodle or bacon and egg sandwich, either of which get cut up by a pair of scissors...
anways, i think mudtrails is good too and a very useful site to point people to the bull and other riding spots. keep it keep it... _________________ http://fraktiv.pinkbike.com/ |
