Was thinking about how Downhill is recognised in the media in the UK (if at all?).

Recently we had some great achievements: Steve Peat & Tracey Mosely a few years back with World Cup titles and Gee being World Champ this year. Generally you'd think that as we'd won something this would be made a fuss of in the press.

Did anyone see anything in mainstream media about these achievements?

I've only seen XC press focus, never on anything downhill.

I have notice Mountain Biking as a whole becoming more prominant in the magazines and press but maybe this is a passing fashion??

On a another note I picked up a copy of the LIVE supplement from the Mail a few weeks back and it had a 4 page article on helidrops in Whistler, and a brief right up on the Trek 88. Some journalist who had never ridden before went up and smashed himself to pieces getting to the bottom.... fool!

Funny you should mention this as generally I would say media coverage of DH and MTB in general is rubbish (apart from XC of course), but in the latest issue of dirt I read that Sheffield Hallam University has honoured 12 figures who have contirbuted to the city, and Steve Peat was awarded an honoury degree! Dirt say, "it's great to see Peaty's carreer rewarded in a public arena & the sport getting some wider recognition in the press."

Sounds like a good read! A review on the 88 seems a bit random for a supplement though!

This whole situation is typical of this country , if it isnt football or athletics it doesnt get any air time on normal TV . Its like Dave thorpe , if anyone can remember him he was 5 or 6 times world motocross champion , but you never saw any motocross on tv .

I think Tim has a point. It has to be on T.V first before anyone will show any interest. And to get on TV you need the big sponsors, which DH just doesn't have at the moment.
I'm afraid I just don't think the sport is set up for big sponsors yet either!

The BBC had coverage of Fort Bill (I think) this year of the Downhill and XC. I think it was called 'The Adventure Show' or something od the sort.
