Got any tips to get the best out of this type of riding?
This is a thread for exchanging various riding techniques.....
Example: Using your arms as an extention while taking off to squash jump if hit with excess speed!

i don't agree that there's any right or wrong way of dirt jumping, i believe practise makes perfect!! - you just have to learn to jump and when you get the hang of it, it's easy!! _________________ just ride

I agree with what you say there, but tips can shove you in the right direction because the right technique is not always obvious.
i.e when i was first trying a gap a couple of years ago (not strictly dirt jumping, i know), i always clipped the back wheel even though i was putting in the same effort as others who were clearing it. I was then told by an observing rider that my weight was too far back and that i needed to dip into the landing. with this tip in mind i hit the gap again and, hey presto, i cleared. It only hadn't occured to me because my riding style was naturally slightly back, so all i needed was someone to point it out to me. _________________

Be Confident is the best i can think, if your thinking your not going to make it as you go into a jump then you likely won't, think that you will and even if its a tad scetchy you probably will....mind games, thats all alot of it is. _________________ |

yeah i was doing a wall ride (i say doing it it was more like riding it along my arm ) and twice i didnt lean, (phsycological i think) but they next day i said screw it chose a med hight put everything out of my mind and now im riding it at the very top after only 5 tries 3 unsucessful but 1 was inbetween succeses and i managed to control the fall and sort of footed off the wall. confidence is key if ya cant be arsed to read all of that little story! _________________

as stuff happens pretty quickly, i find it helps to visualize what you're about to do, eg pedal, little jump, pedal, pedal, berm berm jump etc... That way you’re prepared for the next thing rather than getting caught up in what you’re doing and suddenly thinking arrrghhhh crap, I’m going too fast/slow to make the next jump/berm etc…
this seems to make me a lot more flowy, more confident and generally not so sketchy! (this is not to say that i am not a very sketchy rider ! )
