Would be interested to know what other people think on this. A few years ago when i was looking for a new bike, everyone told me to get a hardtail, at the same time the amount of full suss bikes in the mags were rapidly decreasing. Also the downhill scene was on the shrink at this time. Shortly after, with the introduction of freeride it seemed to turn around with more people getting back to the full bounce stuff, which in turn gave a new boost to the downhill scene. I know downhillers wouldn't like the thought but did freeride save the market?

There has been full-sus for serious downhill and hardtails for XC for years... so i wouldn't say freeride saved the full-sus market.. more that freeride blurred the boundaries between all of the disciplines of mountain biking and most people have come out the other side feeling that full-sus is better suited for them as an all-round bike... _________________ A.BRUCE PHOTOGRAPHY |

True although the variety of the downhill full sussers was seriously declining, almost as if companies were getting scared to put money into that side of the market. Recently downhill has had a boost in interest. Possibly when when freeeride went short travel (slopestyle) and a lot of the big mountain riders moved accross? _________________

Well there's no denying that the 'slopestyle' bike was a huge success and obviously is a full susser but you can read what you like into that.
