I don't know who's been following this one, but shore riders may have seen the comments made by cunny in issue 81 about the shore scene. The letter published this month in response to the article still aint that great. I wrote a letter which is as follows:

Dear Dirt,

I was happily reading through issue81 (November) until I got to the North Shore article on page 42. How narrow minded was that article. I ride all types of MTB and have heard this sort of thing said before. I could draw a similar conclusion to downhill. Ride across an open field that’s sloping downwards, get to the bottom and say ’downhill is rubbish’. What you’ve got to remember is in Alpine parks, they wish to appeal to all riders. That doesn’t mean they’ll build it particularly well. Some of the most fun trails I’ve ridden have been shore trails and there‘s a variety of styles to be ridden. It may be a new addition to the sport but you needn’t be ignorant about it (which the article was). If people refer to the ‘man-made’ side of it, dirt-jumping is all engineered stuff too and seems to get away with it fine. Lets try be a little more open minded about our sport.

Would like to know what people's thoughts are on the subject...

Someone gave a similar response in the Photo issue, but Cunny was pretty much I'm right your wrong, now sod off.

The guy doesn't like shore, he's not interested in anyone elses view point, so leave him too it. Don't sweat it, his loss.

The letter in photo issue was probably sent at the same time as the above mentioned. Because it was easier to run down it was published (I reckon anyway  Wink )

Have seen this before in Dirt and its not an uncommon veiw in the UK on shore etc. Seems a shame there has to be so much narrow mindedness. Is the reason I often prefer Decline for a read.

I see what you mean but it still annoys me, cos a lot of people read dirt and will take on the same attitude because 'it's cool' to do what dirt do. However, IMO Cunny just showed himself up really badly. On the otherhand, he did write a fairly decent report on the rampage and managed not to slate freeride in the article.

Its just contraversy for the sake of it. It may not even be Cunny's real view, but just something to cause the kind of reaction Ben has expressed. That's the role of the coloumist. Jeremy Clarkson has made an entire career out of it. Dirt have now got Rob Warner on board to do exactly the same thing.
You only need to watch Seasons, Roam, Kranked, NWD to see what a large part shore plays in MTB. Are you going to form an opinion based on someone with a britpop reject haircut, or by watching Boyko shred that shore section in kranked 7!! (love that section).

Yeah, I see what you mean. The difference though, is that Jeremy Clarkson & Rob Warner are funny personalities, who you like (well some do) and can laugh with or at them even if you disagree with them. Cunny just isn't.

Laughing  about the haircut btw!

A fair point there. You can see I was a victim of it heh heh. The trouble is it being a fairly common opinion amoung UK downhillers.

This is what I was thinking...

And that is why Decline is so awesome. Very Happy

Barely anyone over here knows about it, yet it is easily the best mag out there.
